SINGAPORE – Can a library have too few books and too much space? Wandering around the roomy sprawl that is the Punggol Regional Library recently, my first thought was – there could be more shelves and more books. Perhaps it is churlish of me to complain about too much space at the library. It says something about Singapore that public libraries are regularly upgraded and swanky new town hubs incorporate library spaces as a matter of course.

Literally so, in the case of the Namaskaraya and Magul Bera performances by Sri Lanka’s Buddhika Ranaweera & Company, which will open the festival with conch shells, drums and fire at the courtyard on April 4. SINGAPORE – The NUS Singapore History Prize, the richest of its kind in the country, has doubled from $50,000 to $100,000. The prize will also now be open to arts and multimedia. The Department of History at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (Fass), National University of Singapore (NUS) announced the changes in a statement on April 1. The prize is financed by an anonymous donor, who has doubled the endowment for the award.
