One thing about it, we are all in this soup together. The Donald Trump administration—otherwise known as the Fiat Presidency—seems to be hell-bent on bullying its way through an improper management of the U.S. government. Mr. Trump, as measured by accomplishments, efficiencies and common sense—was not a good, effective or efficient POTUS his first time around, and this second time he is starting off as if to lower the reputation of that deficit administration even more.

Leadership and criticism always go hand in hand. This is a truism that obtains whether leadership is popularly elected, appointed or simply seized. As the saying goes, someone is always a critic. Public criticism — particularly nit-picking criticism — is always easy. It’s doing something effective within and without the emergency that counts.

Well, for better or worse, the African American population in general in the U.S.A., and the country at large, is in for it now. The election is over and elections have consequences. Mr. Trump got at least 75% of the white vote, particularly from suburban White women, and a significant uptick from young Black men 45 years old and under, and a real uptick in the vote of Hispanic men. Mrs. Harris got over 80% of the Black vote, but that was clearly not as substantial as it has been in other elections.

As many of us are still coming to terms with the fact of the Harris loss in the latest race for POTUS, many different emotions and actions are out front daily, just as they would be personally if we had lost our gambit to stay in our favorite apartment. But ogres and landlords do win sometimes.

The world of nation-states is a very scary place. Intrigue, spy secrets, snooping on each other, always trying to gain an upper hand in trade deals, warcraft studies, monetary clout, space exploration, etc., is commonplace.

In the midst of all the political drama swirling around us all, there are still many other cliff-hanger situations going on. This is either the most exciting time in modern American history—absent the covid scare—or surely at least a time certain to be memorialized in thousands of historical essays. Part of this historical period is surely the coming of Mr. Deion Sanders to the big-time football coaching ranks, swagger, huge personality and his abrupt take-it-or-leave-it personality and all.

It is not unusual for desperate, put-upon people to flail out and sometimes kill or kick out attempts to help them assuage their difficulties. The results are most often a deepening of the quick-sand surrounding them. This reflection recently came to mind in observing the continuity of the harsh criticism of the California Legislative Black Caucus’ recent efforts at securing passage of several reparations-related bills.

Unless there is some major mistake or mistakes made by the Democrats in the next two months, V.P. Kamala Harris should become POTUS Kamala Harris, the first female and the first Black woman head of the U.S. government. That achievement, notably not yet guranteed, would be and will be stupendous. Politically speaking, Mrs. Harris has become the heroine of most white women in the U.S. as well as many others.
