Despite a fast-growing evidence-base examining the relationship of certain clinical and radiological factors such as smoking, BMI and herniation-type with recurrent lumbar disc herniation (rLDH), there remains much debate around which factors are clinically important. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to identify risk factors for rLDH in adults after primary disc surgery.

The inclusion age range of subjects has been set at 45–75 which reflects the subject age demographic and time of disease presentation with consideration for surgical intervention for prostate cancer at the University of Rochester (URMC) Cancer Center. Participants are enrolled in this study in a series of four blocks to ensure that there is not a significant skewing of participants receiving the study drug or placebo at any given point.

To our knowledge, no previous patient case of an isolated thoracic SP fracture in an adult has been reported. Isolated SP fractures are generally treated conservatively. Most patients experience favorable outcome, but in some cases, persistent pain could be related to SP nonunion. Pseudoarthrosis can probably be well tolerated, with no or limited symptoms, as described by Kose et al. [7]. An unknown proportion of SP nonunions are not documented because patients are doing well.

Rotator cuff tears often cause pain and dysfunction, and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) is a successful surgical procedure with good clinical outcomes that is increasingly performed.1 However, structural failure of the repair is not uncommon, affecting 10% to 75% of repairs.2-4 Despite the introduction of advanced arthroscopic techniques, the clinical and structural outcomes of ARCR have not dramatically improved since the 1990s.5 During rotator cuff repair, both mechanical and...

Atypical lipomatous tumor (ALT)/well-differentiated liposarcoma (WDLPS) accounts for approximately half of all liposarcomas [1] and develops predominantly in the extremities and retroperitoneum [2]. Local recurrence is reported to occur in approximately 30–50% of cases, with metastasis rarely occurring [3].

BackgroundAntimicrobial resistance (AMR) has reached alarming levels globally, and is estimated to cause 4.95 million deaths globally, with the highest rates being in sub-Saharan Africa (Antimicrobial Resistance C, 2022). Addressing AMR has been most problematic in low resource settings, which lack infrastructure, diagnostic capacity, and robust data management systems, among other factors.

AbstractCurrent treatments for labral tear include surgical debridement, arthroscopic repair, and labral reconstruction. Although labral debridement and labral suture repair are suitable for most patients, labral reconstruction is the first treatment option when there is extensive labral degeneration or defect. Often, however, the labral degeneration or defect is only detected intraoperatively; therefore, the surgeon should always have a backup plan.
