LUBBOCK – The Andrews boys golf team is just two shots back of the lead after the first round of the Region I-4A Tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course on Wednesday. The Mustangs shot a 295 as Bridgeport was the first-round leader with a 293. Canyon Randall is not far behind in third with a 295, while Lubbock-Cooper Liberty is fourth with a 298. Andrews’ second team is in eighth after shooting a 309.

MHS starter Malyah Carrillo had a quality start by allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks over seven innings. Carrillo struck out 10 Lady Tigers. The Lady Bulldogs got home runs from Bree Battenfelder and Marley Porter in the victory.

CISCO – The Midland College softball team extended its winning streak to 33 games after a non-conference doubleheader sweep at Cisco College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Chaparrals defeated Cisco, 5-1 and 14-2 in five innings, to improve to 37-4 overall. Article continues below this adMarie Rondeau and Tessia Guzman combined to hold the Wranglers to an unearned run on three hits in the first game. Rondeau allowed the three hits, walked four and struck out eight over five scoreless innings.

SAN ANGELO – The No. 1-ranked Midland College men’s golf team captured the NJCAA Region V Championship at Quicksand Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon. The Chaparrals led wire to wire and finished with a 283-285-298—866, eight shots ahead of No. 4-ranked New Mexico Junior College (288-286-304—878). No. 9 Weatherford College (288-298-294—880) finished third, while No. 2 ranked Odessa College (287-296-299—882) was fourth.
