LUBBOCK – The Andrews boys golf team is just two shots back of the lead after the first round of the Region I-4A Tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course on Wednesday. The Mustangs shot a 295 as Bridgeport was the first-round leader with a 293. Canyon Randall is not far behind in third with a 295, while Lubbock-Cooper Liberty is fourth with a 298. Andrews’ second team is in eighth after shooting a 309.

CISCO – The Midland College softball team extended its winning streak to 33 games after a non-conference doubleheader sweep at Cisco College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Chaparrals defeated Cisco, 5-1 and 14-2 in five innings, to improve to 37-4 overall. Midland College golf team wins NJCAA Region V Championship

SAN ANGELO – The No. 1-ranked Midland College men’s golf team captured the NJCAA Region V Championship at Quicksand Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon. The Chaparrals led wire to wire and finished with a 283-285-298—866, eight shots ahead of No. 4-ranked New Mexico Junior College (288-286-304—878). No. 9 Weatherford College (288-298-294—880) finished third, while No. 2 ranked Odessa College (287-296-299—882) was fourth.

The Bulldogs will making a rare appearance as a team at the tournament when they compete against some of the best golfers in the state at Tangle Ridge Golf Cub in Grand Prairie Wednesday and Thursday. Rodriguez is a four-year letterwinner for the Bulldogettes and has helped her team reach three straight Class 3A state championship games and two consecutive state titles. The defending state champion Lady Mustangs shot a 300 to lead Seminole, which shot a 322. Glen Rose is third with 328, while Canyon is fourth with a 332.
