Nicholas Pooran has retired from international cricket. Heinrich Klaasen beat him to it by a week. Their retirements may not feel as seismic as some recent ones, but as two of the game's most fearsome and effective middle-order hitters, they're far from insignificant. Their work has always been valued in very modern currencies. Last year, Pooran broke Chris Gayle's record for the most sixes hit in T20s in a calendar year.

This time last year Kashyap Prajapati was living the dream, playing against the likes of Australia and England at the men's T20 World Cup in the Caribbean. The top-order batter didn't do much of note and Oman went winless, but the tournament was a rare foray into high-profile cricket for Oman. It was Prajapati's second T20 World Cup, having played in the 2021 edition - which Oman had co-hosted - and Oman's third time overall.

"Batters win you games, bowlers win you tournaments" is an accepted cricketing truth. Cricket loves stories like Oman at World Cups. Cricket loves to treat teams like Oman really poorly. A year on from the T20 World Cup, Oman's cricketers have not been paid their prize money. Most of them have been kicked out for asking for it. https://t.co/9yFAJjmMYv
