Ben Thompson guides Fallon to victory at Happy Valley in February. Photos: Kenneth Chan Fallon “ticks all the right boxes” for Ben Thompson as the pair bids for a second course and distance success in Wednesday night’s Class Three Roselle Handicap (1,800m) at Happy Valley. IT’LL be okay for IROKO in the Grand National at Aintree (4.00) — but only just. The National fences are easier and there will be only 34 runners if they all line up. It’s not the test it was but it is certainly one of the most open Nationals in living memory. The top five on ratings are covered by just 4lb — and Iroko just edges it. The bonus little ‘p’ seals the deal as it means improvement is expected. Expected — but not guaranteed of course and the race is bang-full of well-handicapped horses.

GALOPIN DES CHAMPS (4.00) can join the Gold Cup greats. The Gold Cup is the Festival highlight, but this year means even more with Galopin Des Champs within reach of the elite club of horses to win three of more Gold Cups. He’s odds on to do so, and while it’s been a tough week for some of the hot Festival favourites, he is the highest-rated jumper in training and is 9lb clear of his closest rival Banbridge.

NOW, tell me what you want, what you really, really, want, I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really, want . . . a winner at Cheltenham. Legendary pop star Geri Horner hopes the world’s tallest jockey can Spice her life Up by riding a winner on her horse at the Festival. And lanky jockey Jack Andrews reckons he can deliver just that on Ginger Spice’s horse Lift Me Up who runs in Friday’s Hunter Chase.

ONE of Britain’s biggest hopes The New Lion has 5lb to find with FINAL DEMAND (1.20) in today’s bust-up in the Turners. Our ratings puts Dan Skelton’s runner on 143p. The ‘p’ denotes likely to improve — and he will need to if he is to stop the Willie Mullins runner. Final Demand is on 148p so he is expected to improve too. The six-year-old won a red-hot Grade 1 at Leopardstown by a tasty 12 lengths and did a fast time on the clock.

You'll struggle to find a more dedicated, hardworking and (sometimes) funny team to work with. Fantastic role that opens a lot of doors.
