MADRID, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal of Spain announced Thursday that he will retire from professional tennis after the Davis Cup finals in November. "It is obviously a difficult decision, one that has taken me some time to make. But in this life, everything has a beginning and an end," the 38-year-old said in a video on social media. Nadal dominated the French Open with a record 14 titles. He also claimed four US Open title and won Australian Open twice.

MADRID, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Rafael Nadal is a surprise inclusion for Spain in the final eight of the Davis Cup tennis tournament in November. The 38-year-old former world No. 1, who has won 22 Grand Slams, has been included in Spain's squad along with Carlos Alcaraz, Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreno Busta and Marcel Granollers, despite not competing since the Paris Olympic Games. Following the Olympics, Nadal was forced to withdraw from the US Open and the Laver Cup because of fitness worries.

MADRID, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Primoz Roglic (Red Bull- Bora Hansgrohe) took a huge stride towards winning the Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain) cycle race for the fourth time when he won the 19th stage on Friday to go into the overall leader's red jersey. Roglic's Red Bull team had looked to control the 173.5-kilometer stage from Logrono to the Alto de Moncalvillo before viciously increasing the pace at the bottom of the 8.6 kilometers climb to the finish line.

MADRID, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Urko Berrade (team Equipo Kern Pharma) won the 18th stage of the Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain) cycle race on Thursday to claim his modest, but team battle, third win in the race. Berrade formed part of the day's breakaway on the stage between Vitoria- Gasteiz and Maetsu Parque Natural de Izki in the Basque region of northern Spain in a stage over rolling terrain, marked by several steep slopes.

The rider from what is effectively a "second division" team claimed his second stage of the race after holding off Aleksandr Vlasov (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) on the slopes of the Cuitu Negru climb.
