A man was arrested after a major disturbance at a Lidl supermarket in Renfrewshire. Emergency services were called to the scene on Johnstone High Street in Renfrewshire after the alarm was raised at around 7.50pm on Tuesday. Shocked eyewitnesses claimed that the man allegedly "ran through the supermarket, causing chaos". It is understood he then climbed onto the roof of the supermarket when police arrived.

A memorial event is set to take place this weekend in memory of the young man who was killed in a Paisley disturbance. Robert McNally died after being found seriously injured on Maree Road following reports of a incident involving fireworks around 4.15pm on Saturday. And he will be remembered this Sunday after a group of friends organised a balloon and lantern release.

A convicted thug who tried to kill a friend after a row about money has been jailed for a total of 11 years. Ross Platt, 48, stabbed Thomas McBrearty at a property in High Street, Johnstone on March 23, 2023. Mr McBrearty had stepped in to break up an argument between Platt and Aileen McIntyre, who was also there that day. There had been an accusation of money having been stolen. Platt punched Miss McIntyre before turning the blade on Mr McBrearty who was left badly hurt.

A man suffered “catastrophic” injuries when a van driver who had taken drugs crashed into him on the hard shoulder of the M8 near Harthill. David Nicolson, 36, has now been warned to expect a prison sentence following the incident on October 17, 2022. Nicolson, of New Inchinnan Road, Paisley, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court. He admitted causing serious injury to Ryan Docherty by driving dangerously with at least four times the permitted amount of ketamine in his system.

A former St Mirren footballer appeared in court yesterday accused of assaulting a woman in a chip shop. Shaun Rooney, 28, allegedly attacked Sophia Bruce at Blue Lagoon in Glasgow city centre on September 19, 2024. Court papers state the former Buddie repeatedly pushed her on the body and seized her on the body. It is claimed that Rooney, of Bellshill, Lanarkshire, twisted Miss Bruce on the arm and kicked her on the body to her injury.

A Paisley teenager who hailed a taxi to take him to stab a 16-year-old boy with a martial arts style knife has been given a custodial term of five-and-a-half years. Lewis Brown, 19, struck his victim in the chest with a curved Karambit blade – a weapon used by practitioners of deadly Filipino fighting systems. The High Court in Glasgow heard how Brown had earlier taken a cab to the scene of the attack in Johnstone. The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was standing waiting for a bus.
