    Following a 6.8-magnitude earthquake, which jolted Dingri county in Shigatse of Xizang autonomous region at 09:05 am on Tuesday, the Mount Qomolangma (Everest) Scenic Area has been completely closed, Fengmian News reported. According to public information, Dingri county is a must-pass route to Mount Qomolangma and the closest stopping point for mountain climbers and tourists heading to the world's tallest mountain.

    The Chinese side of Mount Qomolangma received 13,764 international tourists in 2024, mainly from Singapore, Malaysia, Germany and France, according to the culture and tourism bureau of Dingri county in the Xizang autonomous region. The number of tourists in 2024 more than doubled from the previous year, an indication of the increased international tourism following China's relaxation of visa policies, Xinhua News Agency reported.

    Nearly 1,000 thangka paintings have been cataloged, appraised, and scanned in high definition in the Potala Palace in Lhasa, the capital of the Xizang autonomous region, since the palace began digitizing them in early March, said the Cultural Relics Research Office of the Potala Palace Management Office. Thangka is a unique form of painting in Tibetan culture, typically a religious scroll painting mounted on colored silk and hung for worship.
