    Colorado Springs City Councilor David Leinweber has served on City Council less than a year and now wants to serve as an El Paso County commissioner. Prior to his election to Council earlier this year as an at-large member (he was the top vote getter in that race), he had not held elective office. Leinweber, in an email message to potential supporters, wrote that he plans to announce his candidacy for Commissioner District 3 on Jan. 8 at his business, Angler's Covey.

    Springs Rescue Mission will host its annual Christmas banquet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at 5 W. Las Vegas St.The Rescue Mission said in a release the meal is free and is "designed to provide a dignified holiday experience to Colorado Springs' neighbors in need — individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty and addiction.""Everyone deserves hope, joy and love on Christmas," Chief Development Officer Travis Williams said in the release.

    Former President Donald Trump has been barred from the Colorado presidential primary ballot by the Colorado Supreme Court. The ruling came today, Dec. 19, in a case originally brought by six Colorado electors (Republicans and Independents) in which the Supreme Court ruled that Trump is ineligible to appear on the state primary ballot in 2024.

    Local and federal officials are celebrating U.S. Space Command's reaching full operational capacity in Colorado Springs. The command, based at Peterson Space Force Base, was assigned to Colorado Springs by President Joe Biden on July 31. Before leaving office, former President Donald Trump had awarded the command to Huntsville, Alabama, but officials subsequently repealed the decision, saying the move could cost taxpayers $1 billion.
