Hammond’s has been serving Forsyth County, Cumming, and North Georgia since 1898. Candy Hammond remembers when Hammond’s Crossing was a 4-way stop at the intersection of Ga. 306 and Ga. 369/Browns Bridge Road. At the time, the Hammond family owned much of the land around the intersection. After transferring from Fort Lauderdale, where she worked as a respiratory therapist, Candy met Thomas Hammond in Gainesville. They married in June 1979. She recalls the early days.

Taking place at a new venue – University Yacht Club – the Lake Lanier Association’s leadership earned plenty of bragging rights for its successes and programs of the past 12 months. With more than 500 members in attendance, the Sunday afternoon event celebrated the organization’s accomplishments, awards and economic impact. “The event was a success from so many angles,” said Victoria Clevenger, executive director.

The weekend of April 25-27 showcases the epitome of summer fun on the water. That’s when the Lake Lanier Boat Show takes place at Margaritaville at Lanier Islands. Organizers say that there will be more than 15 boat dealers, 50 brands and more than 250 boats selling new 2025 boats as well as last year’s boats and brokered boats.

What began three years ago on a sub-freezing Christmas Eve has turned into a blessing in disguise for members of University Yacht Club. Last month, the club celebrated the beginning of a major remodeling of the clubhouse, the brick-and-mortar heartbeat of the historic club on Lake Lanier. “Our clubhouse has always been the major gathering place since the early days of the club,” said Caleb Clarke, former commodore and current fleet chaplain.
