    The Cancer Research UK Pension Scheme has concluded a £280m (€330m) buy-in with Standard Life, covering 2,800 members. The deal, which concluded in March 2025, saw the trustee and Cancer Research UK collaborate closely with Standard Life to meet the fund’s de-risking objectives and secure this buy-in through a “bespoke” offering.     An analysis of insurer results shows that while buy-in and buyout volumes in 2024 were the second highest on record at £47.8bn (€56bn), the number of transactions reached a record level last year with 298 transactions completed. This is an increase of over 30% on last year’s number (2023: 227), with the biggest growth experienced in the second half of the year where over 160 transactions were completed, and £32.5bn of business was written, according to a report by Aon.

    LGPS Central has launched a “first of its kind” stewardship service in the UK to ease the governance burden on partner funds and ensure all shares under the pool management are voted on in the same way. The launch of the initiative follows the new £11bn (€13bn) oversight and stewardship mandate announced by the investment pool in January 2025. The service will cover more than 2,500 companies each year across 15 equity funds, with assets under management of approximately £8.8bn.
