The animal rights group that tried to shut down a slaughterhouse in Denver has a new target: banning foie gras. Pro-Animal Colorado, formerly known as Pro-Animal Future, submitted a proposed ballot initiative earlier this month that would ban the sale in Denver of foie gras, which is produced by force-feeding birds. The proposal would also ban force-feeding poultry in the city. The proposed initiative is only in the beginning stage, so the details may change.

Denver is a step closer to building a list of planned projects for an upcoming bond package. After months of brainstorming, five subcommittees made up of city leaders and community members have passed along over 220 potential capital projects to a committee that will narrow down the final $800 million package that will go before Denver voters this fall. Not all 220 projects will be built.

Denver City Council could approve a rezoning in Central Park that could lead to up to 1,500 housing units being built at the Shops at Northfield. The proposal could help turn the mall, which is home to a Bass Pro Shops, a Target and multiple popular retailers, into a “15-minute city.”A 16-acre tract of land on the northeast side of the mall could potentially be rezoned. Most of the land is currently empty, aside from parking lots and a single retailer, Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse.

Developers in Denver could skip building parking spaces for future construction projects under proposed rules being weighed by Denver City Council. The council’s Land Use, Transportation and Infrastructure committee debated a proposal to abolish parking minimums — the rules that mandate a minimum number of parking spaces to be built for new construction projects.
