    Denver residents may hear a loud siren today around 11 a.m. — it's the annual live test of the city’s outdoor warning sirens. The sirens will sound continuously for three minutes on Wednesday, May 14. This year’s test is meant to evaluate a new remote activation technology, which will allow the system to be activated remotely instead of having to press a giant red button.

    The city of Denver is set to spend up to $70 million to help bring a National Women’s Soccer League stadium to the Baker neighborhood in the next few years. The Denver City Council on Monday approved an agreement that could have the local government pay for land and infrastructure upgrades for the stadium. The city would pay up to $50 million for the property where the stadium would stand, as well as $20 million for surrounding upgrades like sidewalks, roads and a park.

    The Royal Palace Motel, a long-abandoned building right at the corner of one of Denver’s busiest intersections, is coming down. Crews on Monday started tearing into the building at Colorado Boulevard and Colfax Avenue. The sound of crunching metal and crushed wood marks the end of the Royal Palace, which opened in 1969 and closed in 2013. In the 12 years since its closure, the vacant building has been subject to much speculation about its future.

    Denver’s Auraria Campus and the three universities that call it home will be subject to a federal review into possible antisemitism on campus. On Thursday, the Colorado Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights approved a study into the topic. The committee is made up of 10 members appointed to four-year teams. Many members of the current committee are lawyers in Colorado.

    Denver already knows and loves Ruby Hill Park for skiing in the winter, free Levitt Pavilion concerts in the summer and its bike course. The city plans to build on the park’s reputation as an outdoor extravaganza with what it's calling the “Outdoor Adventure Hub.”The final phase of construction is getting underway. The project will include a skate park, a recreational water feature, courts for basketball and futsal, as well as improvements to the park’s green spaces.
