A huge weekend of fast times at the final Pac-12 competition led the Cougars to break four records, while freshman swimmers showed the potential they have. During day one the Cougars came close to breaking a record in the 200m relay consisting of Anna Rauchholz, Emily Lundgren, Skylar Brgoch and Emma Wright, coming within just tenths of seconds of the school record.

Coming out of a 2-week break from meets, the Pac 12 tournament has begun for the swimmers. This 3-day tournament is sure to be a growing experience for Wazzu’s strongest swimmers in the past 5 years. Coming off of two winning dual meets the team has begun raising their hopes for the tournament. According to head coach Matt Leach, the team has shown a lot of promise in their practices and has had high nerves as the tournament approaches.

WSU Swim took on two back-to-back meets this past weekend and came home with the wins in a landslide both times. On Friday the Cougars took on Utah and won 145-117 setting two pool records. On Saturday, the swimmers took on the neighboring vandals taking the win with a whopping 173-115. On Friday the squad consisting of Skylar Brgoch, Wright, Angela Di Palo and Selena Duran Ortiz set a Gibb Pool record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:20.46.

After a successful meet against the Trojans, the WSU swimmers have been refining their skills. The Cougars walked away from their first meet of 2024 with a 133.5 to 104.5-point loss. They showed a strong fight against the number four team on the national standings. “Obviously last week, we reflected on it. We had some hits, some misses, some kind of figuring out where people are at regarding training and what they need,” head coach Matt Leach said.

WSU swimming lost its first meet of 2024 to the USC Trojans 133.5 to 104.5, Saturday at Gibb Pool. USC started off strong with a first-place win in the 200-meter medley relay but the Cougars were right on their tail in second and third keeping the Trojans on their toes. With the swimmers coming off of a break, they were determined to take the Trojans by storm. But given the long break, the Cougars had some post-holiday rust to shake off.
