This is hardly breaking news, but Saturday evening will be Florida’s sixth appearance in the Final Four. It will also be Florida’s third Final Four as a No. 1 seed. So let us review as The High Five looks at the other Final Fours in Florida history:1994 – The third-seeded Gators shocked the world by making it all the way to Charlotte. Duke was in the way, and Dan Cross will tell you that the charge that was called on him very late in a one-possession game was bogus. But Duke won 70-65.

Florida’s win against Maryland on Thursday night was the 10th Sweet 16 win in the history of the program. The Gators have only lost twice in the Sweet 16, in 1987 to Syracuse and 1999 to Gonzaga (and I still say Casey Calvary was over the back). Because we always must let a game simmer for a while, we won’t include Thursday night’s win in the High Five’s look at the five best Florida wins in the Sweet 16.

The Back Nine comes at you after seeing both Gator basketball teams stay alive. Baseball, we’re not so sure those Gators are still with us. 10. So, I have this ritual for Gator basketball games. I put on my lucky shirt from Alumni Hall (still undefeated) and go sit in my office with multiple games going and the sound off on the Florida game. It’s weird. I know. But on Sunday, we had my wife’s sister and husband over and I sat quietly on the couch agonizing over the game against UConn.

The Back Nine comes at you after an incredible weekend, especially anyone who made it to Nashville like my daughter did. By the way, Happy St. Patrick’s Day. 10. It’s difficult to put into words how impressive the last month-and-a-half of this basketball season has been. So, I’ll let my wife female-splain it to you. After Florida broke the Tennessee press for the 10th time (give or take a few), she blurted out, “It looks like they practice all the time!” Exactly.

The Back Nine comes at you after a rainy weekend that was pretty special for a lot of people. Actually, it was really special. 10. If you are like me – and I feel bad for you if you are – you were nervous about Saturday’s basketball game against Ole Miss. I guess the reason I was nervous was that I kept thinking about Billy Donovan almost being physically ill worrying about Udonis Haslem’s Senior Day against a woeful Tennessee team.
