It wasn’t as if the Colorado men’s basketball team featured a patchwork backcourt while struggling through a 21-loss season. Some of the more durable players in the rotation filled those spots. Senior point guard Julian Hammond III played in 33 of 35 games, starting in every appearance. RJ Smith, now headed to DePaul, played in 34 games. Javon Ruffin, coming off three seasons limited by knee injuries, played in 33.

Third quarters have been a problem for the Colorado women’s lacrosse team for much of the season. One more sub-par third quarter all but ended the season for the Buffaloes. The Buffs’ tenure as the hosts of the first Big 12 Conference women’s lacrosse tournament was brief, as CU suffered an 18-12 defeat against Arizona State in a semifinal matchup on a rainy Thursday night at Prentup Field.

Head coach Ann Elliott Whidden and the Colorado women’s lacrosse team have accomplished plenty since the program began NCAA play in 2014. The Buffaloes have compiled a .637 winning percentage in that time, with CU earning three consecutive NCAA Tournament berths between 2017 and 2019. In 2018, the Buffs claimed the first regular season title in what at the time was the Pac-12’s new women’s lacrosse league.

Transfer portal season is in full swing for the Colorado football team. The Buffaloes landed three transfer commits on Wednesday morning, including a pair of former Tennessee players in offensive lineman Larry Johnson III and defensive back John Slaughter. CU and head coach Deion Sanders also landed a commitment from Incarnate Word running back DeKalon Taylor, who also was one of the most dangerous punt returners in the nation last season at the FCS level.

A Colorado men’s backcourt that was short on backcourt depth on both ends of the floor this past season suddenly looks as if it will have plenty of candidates to erase that shortcoming in 2025-26. The latest piece to the mix along the wing arrived on Tuesday, as the Buffaloes received a commitment from Denver transfer Jon Mani, a 6-foot-6 guard from Los Angeles.
