PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WJAR) — It's tough to imagine, but true. Many children in our community don't have a bed to sleep in at night. But some big-hearted volunteers are working to change that. The mission of Sleep in Heavenly Peace is simple: build beds so no child has to sleep on the floor. Volunteers from the local chapter gather at a make-shift carpentry shop in the old Apex building in Pawtucket and get to work. Some donate money, while others donate skill and manpower.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — A Providence shelter takes caring for the homeless to a whole different level. Maybe that's because most of the volunteers are mothers and grandmothers, and the director is a former police chief. Holy Family Home for Mothers and Children on Branch Avenue is for people of all faiths. Danielle Dextradeur was in dire straits, losing her apartment, her job, and her mom. She was forced to live in her car for a while. "It was rough. It was still cold outside," Dextradeur said.

Vincent Emery is stepping into the ring with the big guys in the coffee business with his Lil' Rhody Coffee Company.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WJAR) — Sometimes you just need a little boost to get out of a rut and start to thrive. In Woonsocket, the poverty rate is high and the need for a helping hand is great. "It got really rough. I lost my job. I lost my car and my personal belongings," Dakota Gadson said. Gadson went through a traumatic time after his father died of cancer. "I was kind of just lost," Gadson said.
