Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures of 90 to 110 degrees possible are forecast for much of Southern California starting Wednesday morning through Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service. Warm overnight temperatures will mean little relief from the heat. Now’s the time to prepare. The LA City Office of Emergency Management offers the following tips to stay cool:Drink plenty of cool water! Stay hydrated. Wear loose, light-colored clothing that will keep you cool.

Friends and fans gathered in Judy Horton’s garden this week to celebrate the local garden designer’s 80th birthday. Horton, who often provides expert counsel to the Buzz, including our recent story on how to plant a tree, has designed numerous prominent local gardens. A longtime member of the Hancock Park Garden Club, Horton is a go-to resource for horticulture with a keen eye for creating a pleasing plant palette that doesn’t rely on flowers.
