The hosts were in typical spirited fashion in the first half but they just could not stop the storming reigning champions on the changeover after leading by 2-5 to 1-4 at the break.

Abbeylara . . . 0-13 Dromard . . . 0-12 Abbeylara edged out Dromard in a tight tussle in the Senior Football Championship Round 3 clash with Fergal Battrim firing over a cracking long range winning point in stoppage time at Fr. McGee Park in Aughnacliffe last Sunday evening. These sides haven’t met since the 2021 championship having avoided each other in the past two championships but once again produced another entertaining encounter which showcased an excellent array of point taking.

Colmcille . . . 1-17 Kenagh . . . 2-6 After a shaky start, Colmcille eventually got the better of a determined Kenagh side in the Senior Football Championship Round 2 clash at Michael Moran Park last Friday evening. Kenagh once again got off to a blistering start as they did in the opening round to lead the 2022 champions by 5 points. Josh Kelly, a member of the county U-20 panel this year and only out of minor football, accounting for his side’s total of 1-3.

Clonguish . . . 1-9 Longford Slashers . . . 1-9 Longford Slashers let a comfortable six-point lead slip from their grasp in almost catching out last year’s beaten finalists Clonguish in the Senior Football Championship Round 1 clash at Maguire Park in Ballinalee on Saturday evening last. In a very dull first half, Ronan Kenny opened the scoring after 6 minutes for Slashers. Carey got a free then for the wind assisted Clonguish after 10 mins.

St Brigid’s Gaels Ardagh . . . 2-8 Dromard . . . 1-11 Dromard’s hero substitute Orlaith McGauran sealed the draw for the North Longford side in landing a last gasp point in the 9th minute of additional time to send the title decider to a replay at Emmet Park, Killoe this Wednesday night (October 11) with a 7.45pm throw-in. Ardagh held a slender 2-3 to 1-5 lead at the break with Joanne Whyte scoring both goals while Ellen Murphy found the back of the net for Dromard.
