LONDON — For years, clinical professor Maureen Watkins had taught what the textbook said when it came to explaining the U.K. health model to her students on the administrative health care course. But she decided that, in order to test the theory, there really was no better way to understand and teach it than to become immersed in the country itself. So the board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy decided to set up a Dialogues of Civilizations course in London.

LONDON — Stopping for photos with the River Thames as the backdrop before her graduation ceremony, Sophie Cooper had a double cause to celebrate. Not only was Cooper graduating with a degree apprenticeship in digital and technology solutions from Northeastern University in London, she was also toasting having secured a full-time position at Japanese tech firm Fujitsu as an application developer.

LONDON — Newly elected Polish President Karol Nawrocki is up for a fight — both figuratively and literally. A former amateur boxer, he admitted during the presidential campaign to taking part in “noble” fights with other football fans to defend the honor of his beloved team, Lechia Gdansk (he reportedly has the team’s emblem tattooed on his torso). The fighting spirit shown by the Donald Trump-backed conservative politician has also been exhibited in his views on Ukraine.

LONDON — The United Kingdom and the state of Massachusetts have very different stances when it comes to cannabis possession. Massachusetts law allows a person to carry up to 1 ounce of marijuana on them. In Britain, the same act could land someone in prison for up to five years, present them with an unlimited fine — or even both. A report by the London Drugs Commission wants to soften that approach, calling for personal use of cannabis to be decriminalized.

Students signed up for a week of coaching and tutorials on how to start a business from scratch, with the chance at the end of the five days to pitch their proposals to business coaches and university career staff.
