The Giro d'Italia is done and dusted and attention now turns to the biggest race of them all, the Tour de France. The Critérium du Dauphiné and Tour de Suisse mark major appointments in June but they are very much seen in the context of the Tour, with all eyes firmly on the build-up to the battle for the yellow jersey in July. The 2025 Tour de France kicks off on July 5 in Lille and finishes on July 27 in Paris, with 3,339 kilometres of racing over 21 stages.

It's crunch time at the Giro d'Italia, with the race for the pink jersey set to be decided on a stage 20 route that includes the mighty Colle delle Finestre – not one to be missed. The Finestre is a legendary climb that is made up of gravel tracks in its final 7km. In total it measures 18.5km at an average gradient of 9.2%, rising to 2178 metres above sea level. It's a brute, best known for Chris Froome's table-turning raid to win the 2018 Giro.

It was an interview with Ted King, who discussed the explosive growth of the discipline over the previous five years and looked into his crystal ball to ponder how it might look in another five years. Well, that point in the future is now the present, and King's comments are particularly fascinating in hindsight. Some of his predictions have proven to be bang on the money.
