Games that blend genres are beginning to pop up more often than even nowadays, as game creators have proven all they need is an inquisitive mind and good core gameplay, rather than expensive budgets. But rare is a game that encapsulates what those genres are all about.

With limited releases, but cool hardware, the PlayStation Vita became a console for weird and unusually quirky games. IguanaBee’s “MonsterBag” is definitely one of them. Hard to describe, the game centers around a little monster that must get from one end of a stage to the other, without being seen by the people he’s jumping on. With plenty of thought and real-time button presses needed to advance, there’s a ton of retro appeal here.

In the ‘90s, the “Ace Combat” series was easily one of the most heralded franchises in gaming. One of Namco’s big three of “Tekken” and “Ridge Racer,” the game sold close to four million copies on the PlayStation and even more when the series moved to the PlayStation 2. However, with little gameplay innovation during the last console generation, the series stalled significantly, losing the majority of its fan base, many of who were still eager to play a dog-fighting sim.
