"We are going to get ourselves back there next year so we can right the ship," Maxwell told the players returning for the 2025 spring season. Southern added to its already decorated history.

The Southern Regional High School boys lacrosse team lost in the South Jersey Group IV semifinals the last two seasons. Back to that same stage for the third consecutive spring Thursday, the Rams did not go home disappointed. Joe Kessler scored three goals to lead the second-seeded Rams to a 10-8 victory over third-seeded Eastern Regional in the sectional semifinals. Southern (15-5) will play at top-seed Kingsway Regional (21-0) in the championship at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

HAMMONTON — Elaina Portalatin was so close to a perfect game Thursday. A hit batter in the top of the seventh inning spoiled that for the St. Joseph Academy junior pitcher. "Honestly, I was a little upset, but I wasn't really thinking about it," Portalatin said. "I was just worried about getting the last out for my team and winning it."The ending and her overall dominant performance was still something Portalatin could be happy about.

Logan Homme finished with 23 assists, six service points and five digs to lead the top-seeded Southern Regional High School boys volleyball team to a 2-0 victory over fifth-seeded Jackson Memorial in the South Jersey Group III semifinals Wednesday. The Rams (28-1) won by set scores of 25-21, 25-20. Southern will host third-seeded West Windsor-Plainsboro South in the championship at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Aiden Krinic added 14 kills in the win. Brody Reynolds led with seven digs.
