    Ethan Peterson singled in Landon Haines in the top of the eighth inning to lead the Hammonton High School baseball team to a 3-2 victory over Triton Regional in a nonconference game Tuesday. Haines doubled to start the eighth. Peterson also scored a run in the win. Kole Bagnell went 2 for 3, including a triple, and scored a run for the Blue Devils (13-6). Cooper Mull singled and scored. Nik Schino struck out three and gave up just one hit in three scoreless innings.

    GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — Middle Township High School boys lacrosse coach Gavin Liepe was Jacob Rossi-Friend's health and physical education teacher when he was in eighth grade. "I knew he was going to be a player," Liepe said of the sophomore. However, Liepe had to wait a year to coach him. Last season, Rossi-Friend made the decision to attend Ocean City as a freshman and compete on one of South Jersey's perennial powers.

    The Ocean City High School boys and girls lacrosse teams earned top seeds in next week's Cape-Atlantic League tournaments. Both programs are three-time defending champions. The four-team tournaments will start with semifinals Monday. Both championships will be May 22 at the higher seed. On the boys side, the Red Raiders (6-9) will host fourth-seeded St. Joseph Academy (7-6) in the semifinals. Second-seeded Mainland Regional will host third-seeded Middle Township (12-1).

    The Mainland Regional High School and St. Augustine Prep golf teams competed Monday in the Tournament of Champions at Raritan Valley Country Club. The Mustangs' Daniel Herzchel shot a 77 to place 10th in state Group III individual scoring. Teammates Keller Tannehill and PJ Foley shot a 78 and 79, respectively. Mainland's Patrick Hiltner shot an 83. Mainland, which won the South Jersey Group III tie last week, finished with a team score of 317.
