The Labour Party has criticized the expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia, convened by the lone Labour Party Governor and Governor of Abia State, describing it as baseless. The party stated that the expanded stakeholders’ status is alien to the party and any of its organs recognized by the Labour Party’s constitution, and therefore, lacks the authority to convene a party meeting or make decisions on behalf of the party.

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has urged South-East governors to work together for a comprehensive development of the region. He reiterated this in a statement signed by one of his media aides, Tanko Yunusa. He said such collaboration would help them tackle the insecurity and economic challenges amongst other developmental issues. Obi said such collaboration would engender unity of purpose and help the governors score more results and save more resources.

National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure has inaugurated the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration of the Labour Party. The national chairman who inaugurated the Directorate in Abuja said the move was to close the gap between the wider Obidient group and those in the party. He also warned those fighting the party today but would turn to need the party to run for election come 2027 to be careful.

ROAD contractors are in for a tough time as the price of bitumen, a major component used in the production of asphalt, soared by 150 percent within a period of seven months, between August 2023 and March 2024. Investigation by Saturday Tribune showed that 20 tons of bitumen, which was sold at N854,375 in August 2023, now sells for N2,008,330 in March 2024. The road contractors are also concerned about the rising prices of cement, diesel, granite, and crushed stones.
