A senior Army strategist recently forwarded me an interesting, albeit obscure, piece of Army history. Dated January 20,1983, it is a memo from the director of the Combat Studies Institute to General Jack Merritt, the commanding general of the Combined Arms Center. The memo outlined a proposal for Merritt to appoint a special assistant—one that should have a unique role and, per the memo, should have specific qualifications.

Jan. 12, 1972. It’s a cold, dreary day like any other in the Boston harbor. A “Southie,” still hungover from the Tuesday night before, walks to her shift at the hospital. She stops at the local Dunkin’ Donuts on her way. She gets way more than a cup of coffee. She walks inside to order her usual black coffee with a double shot of espresso, looking forward to her usual friendly morning greeting of “F*** the Lakahs!” But then, she is stopped in her tracks. In front of her stands a man, nay, a god.
I hate skiing

I will never go skiing. I don’t understand the cult that all skiers are a part of. It’s just as cult-like as Miami’s Greek Life, and it possesses some similarities. Both are always recruiting and trying to tell you it's not hell. People think hell is hot and fiery, I think it’s cold and at the top of a ski slope. Allow me to paint the picture of what a fun ski day sounds like to me. I put on the thickest coats I can find and get in my car.
