Community theater can be as subversive as a resistance movement. Just down the street from where Schenectady Light Opera Company is playing "Peter and the Starcatcher" in a gender-blank presentation — where men play women, women play men and anyone plays anything — Schenectady Civic Players will present "Casa Valentina," which tells the fictionalized true story of a resort in the Catskills that catered to heterosexual men who wanted to dress and present themselves as women. kAm%96 AC@5F4E:@?

There are more than 70 theater events listed on Facebook’s 518 Theatre Artists page for the month of March. As if the annual confluence of high school musicals — more than 20 on the list — were not enough to challenge the adventurous theatergoer, the always worthwhile Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill is presenting SoloFest, four weekends of separate one-person shows. It is a terrific sampling of deeply personal works from theater makers from across the country.

The Capital Region theater scene has been on a tear lately, with superior productions of "Falsettos," "A Few Good Men," "Once on This Island," "The Pillowman" and "Heathers the Musical" grabbing audiences. One of my favorite local groups and events is coming up next week, Matinee Theatre Players present Shorts and Sweets. Matinee Theatre Players is a group of 18 seniors who have been getting together every Tuesday since 2014 at the Sand Lake Center for the Arts. They express their love for theatre by writing, staging and producing one-act plays for their own and the community's enjoyment. Many of their one-acts have earned attention and accolades from the Theatre Association of New York State.

Why do I feel ashamed when I've been hacked, like I've done something wrong? I'm sorry.
