DiscussionConsensus methods have evolved over the past 70 years. The most common methods include Delphi outlined in the 1950s40 41; Nominal Group Technique originating in the 1970s42 43 and the RAND-UCLA method developed in the early 1990s.44 Choosing to bypass these recognised methods of consensus development is not necessarily a weakness when there is a clear rationale for that decision.25 Authors should pick the methods that best suit their aims and fit with the resources available to them.
