Chase Olszewski and Matthew McDermott had no intention of seeing the Park Regional hockey team’s winning streak halted, so the duo helped take command of the ice. Olszewski finished with four goals and McDermott came through with the game-winner to help Park rally for a key 6-4 Halvorsen Division victory over West Morris on Friday, Jan. 24 at Mennen Arena in Morris Township.

MORRISTOWN - The Morristown High School wrestling team, keyed by two finalists, placed fourth with 135.5 points at the 39th annual Morris County Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Mount Olive. Reaching the finals in their respective weight classes and taking home silver medals were Dimitrios Mihalakakos (175 pounds) and Greydon Carcich (285). Sean Curnow (150) and Henry Saxon (190) each secured bronze with third place finishes.

MOUNT OLIVE TWP. - The Mount Olive High School wrestling team certainly gave its fans something to cheer for last weekend. The Marauders, led by eight finalists and three individual champions, earned the team title at the 39th annual Morris County Tournament when the two-day event culminated on Saturday, Jan. 25, in Mount Olive. Mount Olive, ranked 12th in the state, won the 21-team event with 285 points, 80 more than runner up Hanover Park.

MORRISTOWN - Nawel Ibazatene-Lefebvre continued to showcase her scoring exploits for the Morristown girls’ basketball team. The talented freshman threw in 19 points on Saturday, Jan. 18, but the Colonials were defeated, 54-35 by Pope John in Sparta. Emma Bolzano added 10 points for Morristown (10-4), which found itself with a 20-11 deficit after the first quarter which it was unable to close.

HANOVER TWP. - Matthew McDermott has had a frustrating season so far on the ice, but on Saturday night (Jan. 18), he managed to change that emotion to jubilation for the Park Regional hockey team. The senior captain scored in the second period — his first tally this winter — off an assist from Colin Mullooly to snap a 2-2 tie as Park forged a key 3-2 victory over Halvorsen Division rival Mount Olive/Hopatcong/Hackettstown on Jan. 18 at Mennen Arena in Morris Township.

MOUNT OLIVE TWP. - Dominic Landolfi and Ryan Walsh both scored but the Mount Olive/Hopatcong/Hackettstown hockey team was edged, 3-2, by rival Park Regional on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Mennen Arena in Morris Township. Landolfi scored an unassisted goal before Walsh followed with a power play tally when Mo/Ho/Ha erased a 1-0 deficit. Talon Muscolino was strong in goal for Mo/Ho/Ha (6-7-2) in making 45 saves. Mo/Ho/Ha will skate against Madison 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Mennen Arena.
