The managing director of Tourism Australia, Phillipa Harrison (pictured) is to leave her role in August 2025 to take on a new opportunity overseas. The national tourism organisation’s board announced the move, saying a search for Harrison’s replacement will begin soon. Harrison was appointed MD in 2019 and reappointed in 2024 for a five-year term.

FCM Meetings & Events has appointed Kellie Howard as its new head of sales for Australia. She has relocated to Sydney from Adelaide for the role. Howard has good industry experience and was most recently director of sales at Adelaide Oval. Her career includes pivotal sales roles at leading venues such as the Australian Turf Club, ICC Sydney, and the Adelaide Convention Centre.

New Zealand’s largest business events showcase gets underway next week at Auckland Showgrounds, where more than 550 buyers will meet exhibitors on 253 stands representing 18 regions. They will be welcomed to Auckland on 10 June at Eden Park by minister of tourism and hospitality, Hon Louise Upston and mayor of Auckland, Wayne Brown. Run annually since 1997 by Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA), MEETINGS returns to Auckland for the first time in four years.

The Cairns Convention Centre will host the 20th International Bat Research Conference (IBRC), 3–8 August 2025, bringing more than 400 global experts in bat research, conservation, and management to Tropical North Queensland, Australia.
