Swindon South, BBC election night part one 2hr 20m Swindon is the tide mark for UK elections. If a party wins both Swindon seats, they are the winning party. The speeches brought me to tears. Heidi Alexander, labour, won, defeating Sir Robert Buckland. Their speeches were so totally respectful of each other. Heidi followed Sir Robert as he exited the stage. Sadiq Khan, watching the scene, said 'you will not see two classier speeches'. He was correct.

As a very young child, I attended the 1964 World’s Fair. The theme was “It’s a small world after all.” During a bike tour in Bhutan last autumn with some Gorge cycle mates and others from elsewhere, that point was driven home. The bike tour traveled a somewhat straight point-to-point route through mountain passes to high valleys ranging from around 6,500 feet to more than 13,000 feet, mostly over well maintained, narrow, windy roads.
