There aren’t many uncertainties about the Eagles offense right now. There is the identity of Mekhi Becton’s replacement at right guard. Will it be 2023 third-round pick Tyler Steen, or will it be new addition Kenyon Green, who was acquired in a trade with Houston earlier this month? There is the third wide receiver spot. Has Jahan Dotson finally earned Jalen Hurts’ trust or will 6-6 Johnny Wilson start hanging on to balls and make a big second-year move?

I’ve known Vic Fangio for 40 years. First met him in February of 1984 in of all places, Deland, Fla., which happens to be the home of Stetson University where the Philadelphia Stars held training camp during their three years of existence. We both are from coal country. Vic is a product of Dunmore, which is a stone’s throw from Scranton. I was from nearby Wilkes-Barre. He went to East Stroudsburg. I went to Wilkes.

The Eagles unveiled their new and hopefully improved defense on an ice skating rink in Brazil last Friday night. And while it’s clear that Vic Fangio’s unit still has an awful lot of things it needs to work on, it did manage to do enough right things to fly out of Sao Paulo with a 34-29 season-opening win. The most important thing it did well was force Packers coach Matt LaFleur to use his rookie kicker, Brayden Narveson, more than he would’ve preferred.

Now, whether the Eagles will get their money’s worth from the Barkley signing is still to be determined. Running backs clearly have been devalued. Since the Giants selected Barkley with the second pick in the 2018 draft, just six running backs have been taken in the first round, just two higher than 24th overall – Bijan Robinson (No. 8 by Atlanta in 2023) and Jahmyr Gibbs (No. 12 by Detroit also in ‘2023). The devaluation has been caused by an imbalance in supply and demand.

In his final press conference of the spring, Jalen Hurts confirmed what everybody already knew about the Eagles’ offense: it’s still very much a work in progress. With the start of the regular season still three months away, that’s neither bad, nor good. It just is. “You want to get to a point where you kind of feel, ‘Hey, I’m going to feel comfortable with this; I’m going to like this,’’’ the Eagles quarterback said. “That time comes when you can rep it, rep it, rep it later on.

You’re absolutely right. A good portion of my colleagues hated the pick.

@pdomo Marcus Hayes and yourself have the receipts that you were on the right side about drafting Hurts, but lets be fair, a *lot* of the media (including on the print side, not just sports radio) were also there fanning the flames against Hurts. https://t.co/6B7GBxSuye

Remember when Eagles fans thought Howie Roseman was nuts for drafting Jalen Hurts? My column: https://t.co/4Hro5oX5aT
