    CARDIFF HAVE announced the appointment of Brian Barry-Murphy as their new manager on a three-year deal. The son of Cork GAA legend Jimmy Barry-Murphy most recently worked as first-team coach at Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City. He previously had stints at Rochdale and Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad. The former Ireland U21 international and Cork City footballer takes charge of a Cardiff side that were relegated after finishing bottom of the Championship last season.

    AS THE tributes poured in for ex-referee Uriah Rennie following news of his death at the age of 65 last week, one memorable image did the rounds. The Premier League’s pioneering first black referee, who officiated over 300 fixtures between 1997 and 2008, proved a key figure during a match between Man United and Sunderland. 31 August 2002 was the date. The Saipan controversy and Roy Keane’s abrupt World Cup exit were still fresh in people’s minds.

    CORK CITY have announced the signing of defender Fiacre Kelleher on a long-term deal. The 29-year-old is the brother of Ireland international Caoimhín Kelleher, who also made a move recently, joining Brentford from Liverpool in a €21 million transfer. The older Kelleher played youth football for Avondale before joining Celtic in 2012.
