Fresh village produce will be available during a car boot sale at Froyle recreation ground and village hall this Saturday (April 26). It’s plane stoopid: that was the message on one of the placards as protesters blockaded one of the entrances to Farnborough Airport. The peaceful protest on Sunday, April 13, lasted for around two hours and involved campaigners from the likes of Extinction Rebellion, Alton Climate Action Network, Farnborough Noise Group and the Friends of the Earth. The protest was the latest in a series against plans to almost double the number of private jets using the airport to 70,000 a year by 2040.

An elderly couple who died in an early morning house fire in Alton have been named by police. Stan and Roma Rickman, aged 91 and 88, were found dead following a fire at their Heron Close home early last Monday (April 14). Flowers have been left at the property with the family releasing a short statement on Saturday.

Everything is coming up rosy for a budding young pupil from East Hampshire as he will be youngest designer at one of the UK’s biggest gardening events of the year. Jonny and Inigo Coller will be top of the plots from May 2 to 4 as the father-and-son from Headley will take part in the BBC Gardener’s World Spring Fair at Beaulieu. Inigo has enjoyed gardening with his dad “ever since he could walk” but the father-and-son are now keen to branch out beyond the hedges of their village home.

The director of a care at home service has spoken of her excitement and gratitude following its launch in Alton. There were heartwarming celebrations in the Assembly Rooms on April 9 as the doors to CareYourWay Alton, Farnham and Farnborough were virtually opened. Around 40 people took part in the “lively” launch with Alton Town Mayor, Cllr Annette Eyre, and Karen Murrell from Dementia Friendly among the special guests.

Also in the newsFirefighters were called on Monday (April 14) after a campfire at the top of Oast House Lane was left unattended. The blaze, which was started in woodland, caused five square metres of damage with one fire engine being deployed at 7.45pm.
