    A window cleaner who received more than £7,000 in a fraudulent claim for Universal Credit has walked free from court after receiving a suspended prison sentence. Jackie Kidd, from Hamilton Gardens in Lisburn, previously entered a guilty plea to a single charge of benefit fraud in that between April 2, 2020, and August 1, 2024, he made a fraudulent claim for Universal Credit.

    During an update in the case against Thinira Liyanage, a prosecuting lawyer told Coleraine Magistrates’ Court that a triage and examination of the defendant’s mobile phone had identified “more than 200,000 images which need to be processed”. Defence solicitor Derwin Harvey emphasised that “I suspect the majority” of the images may relate to the 36-year-old’s work as a computer programmer, adding that Liyanage is “anxious to enter a plea and dispose of the matter”.
