ANNAPOLIS – Maryland lawmakers are weighing two bills this year that would shake up how the state chooses circuit court judges. The proposals are at odds with one another. One bill aims to simply improve the existing contested election process for circuit court judges by opening primaries to all Maryland voters. The other would eliminate contested circuit court elections altogether – a shift that would require a constitutional amendment.

ANNAPOLIS-Maryland lawmakers are divided on whether to clear the path for elderly and seriously ill inmates to more easily seek early release from prison. Those backing a set of proposed reforms argue that the state incarcerates some people who are too old or sick to commit new crimes. "We are talking about people who are very, very ill, who do not and cannot physically hurt anyone," said Sen. Shelly Hettleman, D-Baltimore County.

Police flight records show that the drone, piloted by officers at a command center in Rockville, then returned to its station on a nearby rooftop to await the next 911 call. The drone is one of four operated by the Montgomery County Department of Police.
