But I’m willing to bet that if a similar party were to pop-up in Germany now – perhaps to be called 'die Miete ist verdammt hoch' – it would be met with enthusiasm. Every few months we hear a new, increasingly worrisome, update on how the average rent has hit a new record, or how more residents face an oversized rent burden.

    Elon Musk doubled down on his exuberant support for the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) on Thursday night, promoting its leader Alice Weidel during a livestream conservation on X. In the wide-ranging chat, both Musk and Weidel heaped praise on Trump and voiced their shared disdain for "woke" politicians and traditional media, whom they blamed for what they called criminal immigrants and online censorship.

    Former Finance Minister hit with fake cake at campaign event The former Finance Minister Christian Lindner, of the Free Democrat Party (FDP) was hit in the face with a fake cake at a campaign event on Thursday. He was speaking in the city of Greifswald when a young woman appeared on stage and threw a plate full of soap foam in his face.     Dresden city authorities confirmed that approximately 10,000 affected people had been evacuated from a one-kilometre radius zone in the centre of the city between 7 to 9 am on Thursday morning. DPA reported warning sirens heard early in the morning as evacuations were announced. On Wednesday, an English aerial bomb from the Second World War was found during demolition work on Dresden's Carola Bridge. The authorities then initiated plans to clear the area and diffuse the bomb for public safety.
