Everest senior pitcher Cole O’Brien tossed a gem, allowing just one hit and one walk in a complete-game effort as the Evergreens shut out Wausau West 3-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball game Tuesday at Simon Field at D.C. Everest High School. O’Brien struck out 10 over seven innings to keep the Evergreens undefeated in the WVC at 7-0 and improve to 14-3 overall this spring. West falls to 7-10 and 2-5 in conference play.

    Wausau Pilot & ReviewWAUSAU – The Wausau East softball team snapped a long nine-game losing streak and picked up its second victory of the season with an 11-6 win over Athens in a nonconference game Monday at East High School. Carlie Kluz smacked two home runs and drove in four, and Taylor Dykstra had two hits and three RBI in the win for Wausau East (2-14). Adriana Bodner went the distance in the pitching circle for the Lumberjacks, striking out eight.

    Wausau Pilot & ReviewRHINELANDER – Keyton Laszewski had four hits, including a three-run homer, and drove in five to lead the Wausau East baseball team to a 7-2 nonconference win over Rhinelander on Monday at Hodag Park. Laszewski drove in runs with a singles in the second and sixth innings, then smacked a three-run bomb in the seventh to help the Lumberjacks (9-8) to the victory. Ryan Rodemeier went the distance on the mound, striking out 10 while scattering six hits and two walks for East.

Everest softball team had its 17-game winning streak come to an end, but ended the day with a split of two games at the Chippewa Falls triangular on Saturday at Casper Park. Tomah ended the Evergreens’ streak with a 3-1 win, scoring all three runs in the opening two innings. The Evergreens had just four hits and Mara Meverden drove in their only run in the sixth inning with a single.
