As reported by Business Daily earlier this week, Finance Minister John Mbadi is keen to sell some of the government's 35 percent stake. In total, the government wants to raise 149 billion shillings ($1.16bn) in the 2025/26 financial year through sales of stakes it has ownership in, which includes Safaricom.

    Telefónica has completed the switch-off of its legacy copper network. The carrier finalized the retirement of the copper network this week, shutting down the last 661 exchanges it had in operation yesterday (May 27). It marks the end of a decade-long switch-off for the Spanish telco giant, which kicked off its copper network phase-out back in 2014. This began in that same year when Telefónica closed its first two exchanges in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, and Torrelodones, Madrid.

    Jersey Telecom (JT) has partnered with network vendor Ericsson to launch 5G. The first 5G sites went live in Jersey, in the Channel Islands, over the weekend. It comes after months of trials between JT and Ericsson, in which the carrier was able to successfully migrate the old network on sites within Area One in St Ouen and transition to the newly built network. Two years ago, the two companies signed an £80 million ($108m) investment plan for the rollout of 5G across the Channel Islands.
