A head start with any challenge is always welcome. M-cubed, a program that allows high school seniors a chance to begin taking college classes early, and earn college credit, is doing just that. I’m in the M-Cubed Program and one of a group of Milwaukee Public School students who took college classes here at MATC (and at UW-Milwaukee on Fridays) in our senior year of high school.

On April 25, 2024, the UK’s Investigatory Powers (Amendment) Act 2024 (“IP(A)A”) received royal assent and became law. This law makes the first substantive amendments to the existing Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (“IPA”) since it came into effect, and follows an independent review of the effectiveness of the IPA published in June 2023. The most significant amendments are: Introduction of requirements to notify the UK Government of changes to services.

In six months’ time, on 17 October 2024, Member State laws that transpose the EU’s revised Network and Information Systems Directive (“NIS2”) will start to apply. As described in more detail in our earlier blog post (here), NIS2 significantly expands the categories of organizations that fall within scope of EU cybersecurity legislation.

Have you noticed prices rising recently when purchasing from local retailers? While inflation is definitely playing a role, there are also two new taxes for people who purchase items in the city of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County. The city of Milwaukee implemented a 2% sales and use tax that went into effect on January 1, 2024. At the same time, Milwaukee County’s sales tax increased from 0.5% to 0.9%.
