SOME WRITERS BELIEVE short stories are harder to write than novels. They may put this down to every word having to count in a short story, while in the novel the narrative is allowed to meander. Although this is true to an extent, it would be foolish to think the novel is the easy option, it has major challenges too. For example, how do you keep a reader engaged right to the end of your long journey? The length certainly matters.

The stories in I Hear You were all written for BBC Radio 4. I thought I’d breakdown the journey of one of those stories from its conception to its afterlife. Tickles was the second short story I’d written, and my first for radio. I was commissioned by BBC Radio Ulster producer, Heather Larmour, and it aired on BBC Radio 4.

Her successor Marco Schubert, 50, has been in charge of Porsche's European sales since 2021. Previously, he was head of Audi's sales division in China. Schubert began his career with Mercedes-Benz. Schubert's task will be to turn around Audi's flagging sales. In the first half, Audi's global sales fell 8.2 percent to 832,957 vehicles as supply bottlenecks hit production, the company said on July 25.

Audi's global head of sales, Hildegard Wortmann, is leaving the automaker and will be replaced by Porsche executive Marco Schubert, German press reports said. Wortmann has led Audi's sales for the past five years after joining the Volkswagen Group premium brand from BMW.
