Back in the 1970s Jim Jones, a charismatic preacher and cult leader, led a group of people to Guyana to worship him and his false teachings. It ended with authorities surrounding the compound, and Jones convincing his flock to drink Flavor Aid mixed with numerous poisons, inciting mass murder-suicide of more than 900 people. From this tragedy came the colloquial expression “they drank the Kool-Aid,” referring to people who buy into a tragic lie, leading to their destruction or demise.

There isn’t a lot of whistling while they work at Disney these past few weeks. The latest live action feature film update, “Snow White,” was released to the sound of a thud in the enchanted forest. Starring Rachel Zegler as the title character and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, this $200 million budgeted update made $88 million worldwide including only $43 million in North America.

I’m a big fan of art and therapy. Now it appears that scientists are finding the two worlds can complement each other. About two years ago I was in an existential funk. My career as a comedian and writer was in a loop, where I wasn’t progressing but I wasn’t digressing either. I was in limbo.

It has been just over a month since Donald J. Trump returned to the office of the presidency, and he’s “owning the libs” to disastrous outcomes. Led by his saluting neo-Nazi supporter and right hand stooge Elon Musk, I would call the Trump administration the New World Order but “order” is not the right word.

For 30 years I’ve been involved with the sport of high school wrestling, either as an athlete, coach, section ranker, seeding committee member or announcer. I’ve won state titles with club teams, and I’ve been shut out in dual meets by our cross town rival. Most of that time was with Ventura County teams like Royal High School and Simi Valley High School.
