We get asked “Can you DJ with Apple Music?” a lot. It’s no surprise, Apple is the biggest player in mobile, and Apple Music is built in to the OS. For the last year you have been able to DJ with Apple Music through Algoriddim’s DJay software. To be able to integrate Apple Music into Rekordbox, Engine, Rane, Numark or Serato has always been the next dream. You can sort of DJ with Spotify but it is too much for most users to bother with.

We’ve had a Minirig V1 and subwoofer for a long time. We’ve used it in our studio, on the road, at house parties and even at the beach. And we could summarise our review of that with “Volume without sacrificing quality. ” People are universally surprised by how loud it is, even the speaker on its own. Plug that subwoofer in and you’ll bass face will come out. However we did had a few complaints about the Minirig V1. It’s just too minimal. There is only a single button but three unmarked inputs.

The Pioneer DJM-A9 Mixer was launched in March 2023. When Alpha-Theta release a new mixer, the DJ world takes notice. The DJM-A9 wasn’t just an incremental update to the DJM-900NXS2. This was a brand new industry-standard club mixer aimed squarely at the top end of the market.

We want somewhere to dance…”More recommended reading from DJWORKGlasgow, London, Sheffield, Todmorden. All important cities in the history of UK nightlife. Jim Otewill chronicles their nightclub history, often just in time before the developers swallow it hole. We would have liked more interviews with the clubbers who used these spaces, and definitely more photos.

From a distance of 30 years it’s perhaps hard to remember how revolutionary Spiral Tribe appeared to be. Reading Darker Electricity reminds us that it wasn’t show, Spiral Tribe were the real deal. No TikTok techno here. No chasing fame. In fact uniting the ravers and traveller scene in the UK, and subverting the standard narrative. Spiral Tribe appealed to ravers and indie kids, and those who wanted it to all mean more.
