The show first hit our screens with a pilot episode on January 1, 1980 before continuing for nine series between 1981 and 1988. The much-loved television series, set around Maplins holiday camp in the fictional town of Crimpton-on-Sea, was a parody of Butlin's and Pontins. The show was hugely popular on BBC and launched the careers of many of its cast, reports the Mirror.
