Staff members and volunteers from ShelterBox USA packed and delivered thermal blankets, LuminAID solar lights, and sturdy reuseable bags to support families who lost everything in the Eaton Fire. ShelterBox USA, which has a base in Santa Barbara, sent the supplies to the Pasadena Convention Center, where up to 1,200 people have been sheltering after the fire.

ShelterBox USA, a Santa Barbara-based global relief organization is responding to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza by sending in vital supplies through a partner in the Middle East. ShelterBox will support thousands of displaced people with tarpaulins, rope, and other essential items so people can make temporary repairs to their damaged homes. The supplies will help keep the buildings watertight and protect them from wet weather, and winter cold.

A virtual benefit hosted by ShelterBox USA president Kerri Murray prompted donors online to contribute more than $650,000 in support of the nonprofit’s humanitarian mission. The record number of donations for the Nov. 16 virtual show-and-tell will allow ShelterBox to restock its supplies of tents, repair kits, and solar lights after almost 11 months of non-stop deployments.

Award-winning filmmaker Sam Kadi will present a screening of his recently produced animated feature film “Lamya’s Poem,” 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at UCSB’s Pollock Theater. Kadi will stay for a Q&A session, followed by a reception hosted by ShelterBoxUSA. “Lamya’s Poem” was short-listed for the 2023 Oscars and world premiered at the 60th Annecy Film Festival in France.

King ruled as news director at KEYT from 1984 to 1997 and delivered the reports through a slight center gap in his teeth. Often anchors in fancy big TV markets fixed those gaps with absurd veneers that looked white piano keys crowding their mouths. Not King.
