In a game that ebbed and flowed from one end to the other, Louth were in front at the break 3-4 to 1-8 and extended that lead and looked to be heading for a comfortable win leading 3-16 to 1-12 with just three minutes remaining. However, Westmeath struck with two late goals to get within four points leading to a few nervous minutes for Louth management and supporters alike, but it was a comeback too late.

Leinster Senior Football Championship semi-finalLouth v KildareThere were none of the wild celebrations in Tullamore that were witnessed later on Sunday evening in Portlaoise after Meath ended Dublin’s long, long reign as champions to book a Leinster final meeting with Louth on May 5, in Croke Park. Louth had beaten Kildare and made it to a third final in-a-row. There was joy and happiness certainly, and handshakes and hugs and congratulations.
