POLICE in South Yorkshire are involved in a two week road safety campaign focused on commercial vehicles. Their work will follow a broad remit, with an acknowledgement that heavy vehicles are more likely to cause harm if they are not maintained properly, or are driven with incorrect and insecure loads. But officers wills be out to educate truckers about the risks of being targeted for their cargo or fuel.

AN AMNESTY has been announced for unwitting owners of blank firing guns which have now been re-classified as illegal. Guns which fire blanks - making a noise without firing bullets - can be owned legally, but tests last year showed that some types could easily be converted to work as weapons. They are four types of ‘top venting’ guns, where the gases released when fired go harmlessly upwards, rather than pushing a bullet down the barrel.

AN ARMY of protestors gathered at Conisbrough castle to voice objections to proposals for a vast solar farm as a consultation period comes to a close. Residents from several communities around the 3,500 acre site have joined forces to raise a catalogue of objections to the proposal, which would see 440,000 solar panels installed on what is now arable farmland.

PLANS to re-open Doncaster Sheffield Airport have been given a major boost by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who has announced she will work with local politicians on the project. City of Doncaster Council and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority are both involved in work to restore flights to the airport, the former RAF Finningley. Ms Reeves’ announcement was part of a package of measures aimed at jump-starting the national economy and has been welcomed by South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard.
