PROSPECT HEIGHTS — It’s not known if Pope Francis ever suffered from jet lag, but the Holy Father logged a lot of air miles during his papacy, traveling to dozens of countries to spread the message of Jesus Christ’s love of mankind. The pontiff covered an estimated 291,000 miles in his 12-year papacy. That’s roughly the equivalent of circumnavigating the globe 11 times. One of those papal journeys included a visit to New York City in 2015, during which he stepped foot in the Diocese of Brooklyn.

ASTORIA — Not everyone gets the chance to serve ice cream to the leader of the world’s 1.3 billion Catholics, but Msgr. Cuong Pham did just that, once handing Pope Francis a dish of vanilla ice cream. The scene took place a decade ago, when Msgr. Pham, now pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Astoria, was living and working at the Vatican as an officer of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts.

As an aside, people who went to Catholic school many years ago have told me that they have fond memories of the nuns who taught them.

@PaulaKatinas met Sister Gladys Anyanwu, a teacher in the @BrooklynDiocese who hopes that her presence in a Catholic academy is an inspiration to young people who might want to consider a religious vocation years down the road. https://t.co/TW0bIdntJF https://t.co/m7p66JjQlO

If you walk into any one of a number of churches in @BrooklynDiocese chances are Patrick Keely built it.

And now, here's The Tablet's coverage of Patrick Keely, the Irish church architect who immigrated to Brooklyn: https://t.co/JF08SmaVn7
