Historically, the Texas majority has consistently voted red for every presidential election since 1980. Prior to Ronald Reagan’s election, Texas typically voted Democratic candidates into office. San Antonian and USC psychology and legal studies junior Emi Kosterlitzky noted that this election is different because of the high stakes. “This election is really important for a number of different groups of people and individuals,” she said.

With each presidential election comes a new generation of voters. Nonprofit organizations, like Rock the Vote, have been around for decades and seek to encourage young voters and underrepresented groups to take action, increasing voter turnout. This year’s 2024 presidential election will see 40.8 million of the Generation Z demographic eligible to vote. Additionally, 8.3 million new voters are now eligible to vote, an increase from the 32.5 million Gen Z since the 2022 midterm elections.

At 6, Kash Vantzelfden didn’t know how to read. Now 11, he’s reading at an eighth-grade level – three years ahead of where he ought to be. While reading still isn’t his favorite subject, he now enjoys it, especially comic books because of their relatability —“We all go through our own stuff sometimes,” he said. During the pandemic, Vantzelfden was homeschooled by a tutor, Sara Aguilera. After schools opened up again, the now fifth-grader went back in person but continued studying with Aguilera.

For three days, and three days only, The Grove hosted Spotify’s installation of a library dedicated to Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” Taylor Nation began spreading the message on Monday. It was set to run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. from April 16 to 18. The first thing you notice as you stroll through The Grove — a lively outside mall in Los Angeles — in search of the pop-up is the sound of Taylor Swift songs playing over speakers.
