The early-branching holomycotan phylum Rozellomycota (rozellids) was proposed based on a few formally described species of the genus Rozella as well as on environmental sequences obtained by metabarcoding or by fluorescence in situ hybridizations (FISH) combined with single-cell sequencing [1,–7], initially named Cryptomycota [8].
