    WALKERTON - Winter storms took their toll, including on the amenities in Centennial Park, knocking down the well-used pavilion beside the pool. At the May 27 meeting, council voted to approve the staff recommendation that the pavilion be rebuilt, at another location in Centennial Park.     WALKERTON - On May 27, Brockton Council supported the resolution by Coun. Greg McLean, seconded by Coun. Tim Elphick, concerning Bill 5: Unleashing Ontario’s Economy Act. Although the one-month comment period for the bill has expired, copies of the resolution will be forwarded to Premier Doug Ford, the minister of municipal affairs and housing, MPP Lisa Thompson, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, and all Ontario municipalities.

    WALKERTON - The May 27 meeting of Brockton council began with a minute of silence, to honour the five people from Walkerton District Community School who lost their lives in a devastating car crash, and the man who was killed in an industrial incident in Chepstow, all on Friday, May 23. “We will open the meeting by acknowledging the tragedy that our community has suffered, and the deep loss that the families and the Walkerton District school community have experienced,” said Mayor Chris Peabody.

    WALKERTON - A report on the Municipality of Brockton’s new plow truck ended up being discussed with another report from finance, during the May 27 council meeting. The truck – actually, the attachments – ended up costing more than expected. During 2024 budget deliberations, council had approved $300,000 for the purchase of a replacement plow truck, to be funded through long-term debt.
